UPDATE ON CITY TRASH PICKUPS

City residents:

At the November 4, 2024 city council meeting the council moved to contract out our city's trash services to Grey Snow Sanitation. The entire city will have trash picked up on Thursday’s each week. If you previously had trash picked up twice a week and feel you will need 2 trash bins, please notify city hall so that adjustment can be made. There were many reasons for this decision, but mostly due to increasing costs at the landfill. Each year the city is faced with the increased costs and in order to stay ahead of the financial aspect, rates have had to increase. There are many factors that go into figuring trash rates and it was decided the most cost-effective solution would be contracting it out.

Although the change can seem uncertain, the city will work closely with Grey Snow Sanitation to ensure this is a smooth transition. The council moved to reduce the monthly charge to a flat $24.00/month and this rate is locked in for 3 years. This should also be a reassurance to community members that they will not see a rise in their trash rate during those years. Residents who do not have the ability to haul off tree limbs/brush will still be able to get those picked up by the city for disposal. The city tree dump is available for residents all year long, unless it is too full and the weather doesn’t allow for burning.

Grey Snow Sanitation will deliver trash cans to each property before the beginning of the year. There are only a few houses that will need to change their trash location and those residents will be notified in advance. If you have plastic containers or unburned barrels that you would like to dispose of, the city will haul those off at no additional cost once the new bins are dropped off. This will eliminate any type of confusion going forward and allow for a smooth transition. If you have large/bulky items that you are disposing of and do not have the means to haul it off, please contact the city hall no later than Tuesday at noon so that it can be scheduled for pick up.  There is a fee for bulky items and that list will be posted on the city website along with being sent out later next month.
